 , how merry were the feasts which we all enjoyed here in the General's fine dining room! Though the food was always plentiful and delicious, it was ever matched by good company and elegant surroundings.
As you will discern from the quality of the fine mahogany dining room table which anchors the room, this was the place where the family would choose to put its most impressive piece of furniture. Elegant flourishes like the wooden game and fruits carved into the room's fine walnut and marble Renaissance Revival sideboard would make the food served on it seem even more succulent. The brilliant chandelier lent extra sparkle to crystal and conversation alike by shining initially with candlelight, and, later, with some of the first electric light in the house.
